Hong Kong tightens restrictions

It has been reported by media outlets that, in response to a third wave of infections, Hong Kong has increased travel restrictions and social distancing measures to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus.

The city reported 52 new cases on Monday, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 1,521. Despite a rapid and effective initial response to the virus, Hong Kong has seen 236 new cases in the past seven days. New infections were typically down to zero or single digits per day in previous weeks.

Included in the revised restrictions announced on Monday were the limiting of public gatherings to just four people, formerly fifty. Restaurants are no longer allowed to seat more than four customers together at a table and must revert to take-away or delivery-only services between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m..

Public recreational facilities such as bathhouses, gyms and gaming centres will be closed for a week with public events and exhibitions cancelled or postponed.

Visitors to Hong Kong arriving from or through high-risk areas in the last 14 days must show proof that they tested negative prior to boarding the aircraft. If they cannot, punishment will fall on the airlines that flew them to Hong Kong. In addition, the Hong Kong authorities have mandated that masks are required when travelling on all public transport.
